Years Since 1982

― Our Backstory

They didn't wait for change. They built it.

In 1982, six Black men walked into a conference in New Orleans, Louisiana. They looked around the room — and didn’t see anyone who looked like them. No representation. No reflection of their experience. No clear pathway forward.

So they didn’t wait for change… they built it.

That moment became the foundation of IOBSE.

― Legacy in Motion ―

Today, let's take a moment and look at how far we've come.

Look at the talent. The leadership. The diversity of thought. The presence.

This… is progress.
This… is legacy in motion.

And this… is exactly what those six men had in mind when they took that first step.

Honoring the visionaries who began it all
